Can we stop pretending like any of the Harry Potter movies deserves an Oscar?
They’re relatively good movies, and a lot of the acting is really good. And I love everything to do with Harry Potter with a passion. But, in comparison to how good the books are and how good the movies could or should have been, they’re not very good at all.
There are so many better, more deserving movies out there.
I agree as far as the acting and book comparisons go, but I call bullshit on the award for makeup. Turning Meryl Streep into Margaret Thatcher is nothing compared to the complicated design of creating magical creatures over the course of 8 movies. It’s just disappointing to not see that sort of behind-the-scenes dedication receive something.
I think the bigger issue is that Potter is fantasy, and it’s in our minds to disregard fantasy when considering quality and that’s getting old. Also, I think there would be a much different outcome for awards if it wasn’t up to a bunch of old white men.

I agree as far as...book comparisons go, but I call bullshit on
But that’s why all of the nominations are for like special effects. Not best screenplay…
I love unpopular opinions such as this.
Academy doesn’t judge...for how closely related they are to the books. Movies are judged...
